Floods are when water pours over land that is dry, and creates havoc. It usually happens when rivers, or oceans overflow. During rainy seasons, floods are most likely to happen because water is being added to a water source, and its banks or barriers aren't big or strong enough to hold the surging waters. The worst part is trying to get the water back out . Once it enters a community, it is even harder to make it leave. Once on land, water pours through, and destroys everything in its path. But when the surge is over, sometimes land can act like a basin, and it can be almost impossible to get it out.
Another way that floods can start is when snow is melting. When snow starts to melt, it flows into rivers in the mountains, and it increases the volume of the river. By doing so, the river has to expand, and then it creates new borders. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, the water that has forced the river to expand makes the river cross into populated places.
Fortunately, most floods can be predicted and proper warning can be issued before the flood hits. But in some cases, you can't. The type of flood that is the most dangerous is a flash flood. These type of floods can happen in seconds, and you will literally have no warning before water comes rushing into your community. One famous flash flood is the Big Thompson Flash Flood, which happened in Colorado. They were still cleaning up from the flood more than a year later. This provides evidence that flash floods are the most dangerous because people have no warning, and cannot possible prepare for this deadly event.
